5th Grade--Solar System Review 2


1.      Asteroid—a large piece of space rock with an irregular shape.
2.      Comet—a space object made up of dust and ice.
3.      Dwarf planet—Pluto
4.      Elliptical—like a flattened circle or oval.
5.      Estimate—to make a careful guess about an amount or value
6.      Gravity—a force of attraction between two objects.
7.      Inner planet—Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars
8.      Measure—to use a tool to find a number to describe an amount or value
9.      Meteor—a streak of light produced by a meteoroid burning up in its path toward Earth.
10.  Meteorite—A meteoroid or piece of a meteoroid that lands on Earth.
11.  Meteoroid—A rocky body with an irregular shape that is smaller than an asteroid.
12.  Moon—a natural object that moves in a path around a planet.
13.  Outer planet—Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
14.  Planet—a large, round object that revolves around a star.
15.  Revolve—to move in a fixed path around another object.
16.  Solar system—the sun, Earth, all the other planets, and all the objects that travel around the sun.
17.  Star—a giant sphere of gases that produces light and heat.
18. Telescope—a tool that makes objects that are very far away appear much closer.
