5th Grade--Lesson 4 and Review


1.      Estimate—to make a careful guess about an amount or value

2.      Measure—to use a tool to find a number to describe an amount or value

3.      Star—a giant sphere of gases that produces light and heat

4.      Dwarf planet—a round space object that is smaller than a planet, is not a moon, and revolves around a star along with other similar space objects.

5.      Elliptical—like a flattened circle or oval.

6.      Gravity—a force of attraction between two objects.

7.      Inner planet—one of four small, rocky planets closest to the sun (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars)
8.      Moon—a natural object that moves in a path around a planet.

9.      Orbit—a path around a star or planet.

10.  Outer planet—one of the four giant gas planets farthest from the sun (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune)

11.  Planet—a large, round object that revolves around a star.

12.  Revolve—to move in a fixed path around another object.

13.  Solar system—the sun, Earth, all the other planets, and all the objects that travel around the sun.

14.  Telescope—a tool that makes objects that are very far away appear much closer.
