5th Grade--Light Vocabulary

1.      Absorb—to take in

2.      Absorption—the process by which a material takes in energy and changes it to a different form of energy.

3.      Energy—the ability to make things move or change

4.      Lens—a piece of clear material that refracts light and is used to make objects appear larger or closer

5.      Light—a form of energy that we can see

6.      Medium—a material through which energy travels

7.      Mirror—a very smooth surface that forms images by reflecting light

8.      Prism—a clear object that separates white light into the colors of the spectrum

9.      Reflect—to cause light or sound to bounce off a surface and reverse direction

10.  Reflection—the process in which light bounces off a surface

11.  Refraction—the process in which light bends as it passes from one material into another


12.  Shadow—a dark shape formed when an object blocks light from reaching a surface
