5th Vocab--Astronomy

1.      Edwin Hubble-- American astronomer who classified galaxies in three types. He made the observation that galaxies are constantly moving away from each other.

2.      Galileo Galilei--Italian Astronomer who invented 1st telescope.

3.      Johannes Kepler-- German mathematician who discovered orbits of planets are elliptical rather than round

4.      Nicolaus Copernicus--First scientist who said the sun was the center of the solar system and the planets revolved around it.

5.      Astronaut-- A person trained to travel in a spacecraft.

6.      Astronomy-- the study of stars and planets

7.      constellation --A group of stars that are named after the shape it resembles.

8.      rocket --A vehicle that is used to send spacecraft into space.

9.      rover --A vehicle designed to explore the surface of a planet.

10.  Satellite--Any celestial body orbiting around a planet or star. 

11.  space station --A large satellite in which people can live for long periods.
